Painting Explained:
St. John Paul II lived the theology and spirituality of True Devotion to Mary by St. Louis de Montfort. Totus Tuus was the motto on St. John Paul II’s coat of arms, meaning “Totally Thine”
In the background of the painting from left to right, is the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is found in Wadowice, Poland where St. John Paul II grew up as a child. To the right, are mountain plains representing St. John Paul II’s trials and journey throughout his life. The mountains also have a great significance to the Third Secret of Fatima. To the far right, is St. Peter’s Basilica signifying his papacy as Pope.
In the foreground, St. John Paul II reverently bows his head in prayer holding hispontifical staff with Jesus on the crucifix. Next to him is Our Lady of Fatima with the bullet in her crown that nearly assassinated St. John Paul II. Mother Mary and St. John Paul II are covered under the protection of the Holy Spirit’s wings. The Immaculate Heart of Mary and Sacred Heart of Jesus are hidden within the red roses.
